Inflammatory Bowel Disease

(Ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease)

Inflammatory bowel disease, of which the two most common are ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD), can cause abdominal cramps and pain, diarrhoea (often severe with blood) and sometimes fever and weight loss. Drugs are usually taken to suppress the symptoms and occasionally surgery is required to remove severely affected parts of the bowel.

There is
limited research which suggests that acupuncture can help sufferers of both UC and CD by reducing the disease activity and increasing the quality of life and well being of sufferers.
