Acupuncture releives symptoms of PMS

A new study suggests that acupuncture can relieve the symptoms of anxiety and depression in Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS). Acupuncture, using needles inserted at traditional Chinese points in the arms and legs, resulted in a far greater (and scientifically significant) improvement in the symptoms of anxiety and depression in a group 30 women with PMS when compared to 'sham' acupuncture when needles were inserted in non-acupuncture points. Women who received acupuncture experienced no side-effects. One way that acupuncture may be working is by triggering the release of the hormone 5-HT, which can be at low levels in women with PMS.
